“Billiam has been putting out records, both self-released and on labels like Goodbye Boozy, Erste Theke Tontraeger, Warttmann Inc, Under The Gun, and Legless Records since 2020 jumping back and forth between endless sounds of drum machines and blown out synthesizers, telling tales of Sonic The Hedgehog, Cardboard Boxes and Autism Spectrum Disorder. He recorded and played everything himself out of sheer boredom and terror in a mad scientist fashion in order to keep his specific brand of “autismcore” going. This new LP, Animation Cell, is his most fully formed yet with an endless barrage of ideas trying to get to the next sound with fuzzy warmth and harsh feedback.” — Legless Records
Automatic hydraulic stamp-press Australian garage synth punk, this second album continuing the spring-loaded paranoia and serious fun you’ve come to expect from this neurodivergent genius, and wrenching it up in every department, the sounds, the songs, and the punch…great from the get-go when Billiam yanks open the curtain and pulls the lever, snapping it back home, Side One opening with a cattle prod to those bolts on your Frankenstein neck, ending the side with the 1-2-3 punch of “Bash My Head…,” the catchy “My Metronome” and “Segaworld,” launching back into it with the second side, continuing with a mix of crazy and catchy, the Billiam jalopy moving into position, bouncing, rolling and rocking down the torn up blacktop on a Roger Rabbit-style half-animated movie action-packed with massive cartoon mallets smashing talking heads, dump-trucks and mario carts, thunder booming, lightning crackling and electric lines buzzing in the orange skies overhead…while synth punk has been going since the beginning (and maybe Billiam’s “Hit the Brakes” on this album offers a nod to the importance of 1966’s “Talk Talk” from the one-glove wonders of Los Angeles), Billiam has his own thing going…going off the cliff and into your ear holes…it’ll drop on your skull like an Acme anvil and will leave you with twirly birds chirping around your head and a goofy grin pasted across your face. — winch, Green Noise Records
